Two men were killed and a third was injured in a shooting late Saturday night at a QuikTrip convenience store in Arlington, police said. A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at the QuikTrip in the 5600 block of South Cooper Street around 10 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, police found a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Omed Abdal, lying unresponsive in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.
A third victim, a 19-year-old man, was found with a gunshot wound to his foot. He was taken to a hospital, treated and later released, authorities said.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from a fight between two groups in the gas station parking lot. During the altercation, the suspect, identified as Saman Islam, 17, allegedly retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and opened fire, striking the victims.
Islam and several others involved in the confrontation remained at the scene when officers arrived and were detained for questioning. Islam was later booked into the Arlington City Jail on charges of capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said. His bail amount has not yet been set.
Authorities have not released the name of the 19-year-old victim who was killed. The motive behind the initial altercation remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
