A murder-suicide at a home on 4520 Twin Lakes Boulevard has left three people dead, including the shooter, authorities confirmed Thursday.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the tragic events unfolded on April 4 when Carlos Reyes, 28, arrived at the residence and opened fire. Michelle Rodriguez, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene after Reyes shot her multiple times. Ryan Kruse, also 24, was critically injured and rushed to Broward Health Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning. Reyes turned the gun on himself and died shortly after being hospitalized.
Surveillance footage reportedly captured Rodriguez attempting to crawl out of the home after being shot before Reyes fired again, killing her. Police have not disclosed any motive or clarified the relationship between Reyes and the victims.
Tom Kruse, Ryan’s father, expressed his grief in an interview with NBC6. “I got a call from one of the neighbors saying there were cops and shooting at my house,” he said. “I tried calling my son… no answers. It’s been a merry-go-round for me and my family.” He described Ryan as a “well-loved” young man who was supposed to start college this year.
The incident has shaken the local community and highlighted ongoing concerns about gun violence. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
As investigators continue their work, mental health resources are being emphasized for those affected by the tragedy. Individuals in crisis can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide Prevention Lifeline or visit 988lifeline.org for support.
