A mass shooting at a house party in Tacoma early Saturday left two people dead and four others injured, authorities said.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department responded to a large gathering in the 17800 block of 25th Avenue Court East just after midnight. Witnesses reported a fight had broken out in the street, and shots were fired before deputies arrived, prompting widespread panic among the 30 to 40 juveniles at the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies found one male victim in the street and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead. Five other victims were taken to local hospitals by others, where one later succumbed to his injuries. The remaining four victims, aged 16 to 21, are hospitalized with serious injuries but are expected to recover.
A male juvenile has been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to the sheriff’s department. Nearby homes and vehicles were damaged by gunfire, but no additional victims have been identified.
The scene remains secured as detectives and forensic teams continue their investigation. A large portion of the neighborhood is blocked off, and residents are advised to avoid the area.
“This is another grim reminder of how dangerous parties can be when things get out of hand,” the sheriff’s department said, urging caution and safety.
