A small plane crashed into a residential home in Brooklyn Park on Saturday afternoon, killing all on board and igniting a fire that engulfed the structure, officials said. The incident occurred around 12:20 p.m. near the intersection of 109th Avenue North and Noble Parkway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The aircraft, identified as a SOCATA TBM7 single-engine plane, had departed from Des Moines International Airport in Iowa and was en route to Anoka County-Blaine Airport in Minneapolis when it went down, the FAA reported. Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway confirmed during a press briefing that there were no survivors among the passengers aboard the plane. The exact number of individuals on board remains unclear.
Fortunately, all residents of the home escaped unharmed, Conway said. It was not immediately known whether they evacuated before or after the crash. Footage from the scene showed the house fully engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the sky. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, and officials urged bystanders to maintain a safe distance.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz acknowledged the incident on social media, stating, “My team is in touch with local officials on the scene in Brooklyn Park, and we are monitoring the situation closely. Grateful to the first responders answering the call”.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken the lead in investigating the crash, with assistance from the FAA. Investigators are expected to arrive at the scene Sunday to document the wreckage and examine the aircraft. The probe will focus on factors including the pilot, the plane, and the environment, the NTSB said.
Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston expressed gratitude for the state’s support and assured the community would rally around those affected. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with updates expected in the coming days.
