
A chaotic scene unfolded just south of the Pompano Beach pier near the playground on Thursday as reports of shots fired prompted a large police response. The incident occurred during the “Official Broward Beach Day,” an event that drew multiple high schools to the area.
According to Broward Police Activity, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office received reports of gunshots near the pier, with units quickly responding to the scene. They requested additional support, including a helicopter, to manage the situation.
Authorities located 9mm shell casings near the bathrooms at 100 N Ocean, securing the area as a crime scene. An individual was detained for being in possession of a firearm.
The area was described as chaotic, with large crowds present. Police worked to move people away from the scene, emptying the beach and clearing the pier.
Units from Deerfield Beach responded to support the Broward Sheriff’s Office in managing the situation, which involved a significant number of teenagers.
