Scott Miller, a social studies teacher at Prescott High School, was arrested on charges of sexual exploitation involving a minor and tampering with evidence, according to local authorities.
The Prescott Police Department took Miller into custody following an investigation into allegations that he engaged in inappropriate conduct with a student. The investigation revealed evidence supporting the charge of sexual exploitation of a minor, a serious felony offense under Arizona law. Details about the specific nature of the allegations have not been publicly disclosed due to the ongoing investigation and privacy concerns related to the victim.
Miller has been a known educator in the Prescott Unified School District, with a professional background in teaching social studies. His LinkedIn profile indicates extensive experience in education and lesson planning.
School officials sent a letter to parents announcing Miller’s employement had been terminated. According to Superintendent Clark Tenney, Miller was reassigned “to home and removed him from all contact with PUSD students,” after they were informed of the investigation. He was fired after authorities finally gained enough evidence to make an arrest on Thursday.
The investigation does not involve a student of the Prescott Unified School District. According to Prescott PD Deputy Chief, Jon Brambila, Miller erased incriminating images from his phone.
He said they sent some data to Homeland Security. “We found file names matching the images on his phone but we do not have images,” which were allegedly involving underage children.
This arrest adds to a growing list of educators in Arizona facing disciplinary action and criminal charges related to sexual misconduct with minors. Statewide, more than 50 educators have been disciplined or arrested in recent years for similar offenses, highlighting ongoing challenges in protecting students from exploitation by trusted adults3.
Miller’s case is pending further legal proceedings. He remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation. No court dates have been announced at this time.
