The Springfield Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide that occurred Friday morning on the 200 block of East Kearney Street.
Officers responded to a reported burglary in progress at 208 E. Kearney St. around 11:01 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals deceased inside the business. Authorities identified the deceased as Jeremy Kudrna, 52, and Julie Kudrna, 52, both residents of Springfield.
According to a police statement, investigators determined that Jeremy Kudrna fatally shot Julie Kudrna before taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The police confirmed that family members of the deceased have been notified. Detectives emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety stemming from this incident.
This marks the fourth homicide investigation in Springfield for 2025. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).
