A high school sophomore is dead following a car accident in Omaha, Nebraska. Elise ‘Ellie’ Cole, 16, was killed in a car crash on Monday, April 21, the school district said.
The two-vehicle crash occurred near 176th and Q streets around 7:24 p.m. when the driver of a 2006 Ford F-350 ran a red light and collided with a 2017 Subaru Outback, driven by Cole. Both drivers were transported to the hospital, where Cole was pronounced dead.
The truck driver was identified as 32-year-old Christopher Luke.
Millard Public Schools released a statement addressing the tragedy.
“Ellie was a kind, joyful person who gave so much of herself to others. As a member of the Principal’s Council and Show Choir, she was always eager to share her voice and make a difference,” said Dr. Greg Tiemann, the principal of Millard West. “Ellie greeted everyone with a smile and had a special way of making people feel seen—whether it was saying hello in the hallway or helping new students feel at home at Millard West,”
Millard Public Schools provided a crisis team to support students, staff, and families affected by the tragedy.
The crash remains under investigation.
