The sister of Memphis rapper Big Boogie died Tuesday after a high-speed police chase ended in a crash in Hazen, Arkansas.
Arkansas State Police (ASP) identified the victim as 29-year-old Laterrika Woods, sister of John Lotts, known professionally as Big Boogie.
The incident began when a trooper attempted to stop a Dodge Ram pickup truck for a traffic violation near Interstate 40 in Lonoke County. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Torkilo Hambrick, also known as Kizzle, fled, leading police on an 18-mile chase at speeds exceeding 120 mph.
Troopers used a Tactical Vehicle Intervention maneuver – also known as a PIT maneuver – to force the truck into a ditch. Woods was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
ASP Col. Mike Hager said, “This tragedy is a direct result of the suspect’s reckless, selfish actions”.
Hambrick, a registered sex offender with active warrants in Shelby County for probation violation, faces charges related to Woods’ death. He and another passenger were hospitalized in stable condition.
A 26-year-old Memphis woman, also ejected from the truck, was airlifted to Baptist Medical Center in critical condition. Social media reports identified her as the suspect’s girlfriend. Further claims said she lost an arm in the crash. Authorities are yet to corroborate that information.
Troopers reportedly found weapons, drugs, and money in the vehicle.
Big Boogie shared the news on Instagram, writing, “I Love You Sister. Tears. Tears. Tears. I’m Logging Off Today”.
