A teacher at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village was arrested Friday following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a student, police said.
Brian Greenspan, 53, was taken into custody at the school around 1:20 p.m. after a 15-year-old female student reported an incident from December 2024. According to law enforcement, the student told a friend that Greenspan had approached her while she was seated at her desk, instructed her to sit down, and then allegedly patted her backside over her clothing twice. The friend later informed the school’s principal, who contacted authorities.
Greenspan faces multiple charges, including forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child, and sexual abuse. The New York Police Department confirmed the arrest and stated that the investigation is ongoing.
Greenspan has yet to publicly comment on the allegations. Martin Van Buren High School officials also did not provide an immediate public response to the incident.
The arrest has sparked concern within the school community. Parents and students have expressed shock over the allegations, with some calling for increased vigilance and measures to ensure student safety.
This case highlights the importance of open communication within schools and underscores the need for students to feel supported in reporting inappropriate behavior. Law enforcement praised the victim’s courage in coming forward and emphasized their commitment to thoroughly investigating such cases.
Greenspan is expected to appear in court as the legal process unfolds. Further details about his employment status at the school have not been disclosed.
