A man is dead and a woman is in critical condition following a suspected murder-suicide attempt late Tuesday night in Dinuba, police said.
Officers responded to a welfare check at approximately 9:06 p.m. at a residence on Gardenia Avenue, near Lavender and Rosemary avenues, after receiving reports of a man, later identified as Jesus Murillo, holding a gun to a woman’s head, according to the Dinuba Police Department.
When officers arrived, a 28-year-old woman, who has yet to be identified, ran out of the house and collapsed in the street with two gunshot wounds to her chest. Police quickly moved her to safety before she was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. She remains in critical condition, authorities said.
The woman told officers that a man was still inside the home with a firearm. Police surrounded the residence and issued multiple announcements but received no response. Using a drone to assess the situation inside, officers located an unresponsive man lying on the floor of one of the rooms with a gun nearby.
A police team entered the home and confirmed that the 26-year-old man had suffered a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was the mother of Murillo’s two young children.
Detectives are investigating the incident as an attempted murder-suicide and believe there are no outstanding suspects. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Dinuba Police Department at (559) 591-5911 or anonymously at (559) 591-TIP1 (8471).
Meanwhile, Manuela Ochoa, Murillos’ mom, has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses for her late son, who leaves behind a son.
