
Two children from a Lancaster County family of six were killed early Friday in a crash on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Laurel, Maryland, authorities said.
Carson Rollman, 13, died in the crash, and Annika Rollman, 10, was transported to the hospital and placed on life support, but died shortly after, her mother revealed on Instagram. Four other members of the family, including the parents – Brad and Mimy Rollman – and their other two children – Alea, 13, and Alyssa, 11 – were also hospitalized and are expected to survive. The family was on their way to a vacation in South Carolina when the accident occurred.
The crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. on the southbound BW Parkway near Route 197, according to U.S. Park Police.
The cause of the crash has not been released as investigations continue. The family decided to donate Annika’s organs to save other lives.
A GoFundMe was established for the family following the tragedy to aid in costs for travel, hospital bills, funeral service, etc. At the time of publication, the fundraiser had over $50,000 in donations.
Southbound lanes of the BW Parkway were closed for several hours, causing significant traffic delays during the morning rush hour. All lanes reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m., with delays gradually dissipating, according to the Metropolitan Area Transportation Operations Coordination Program.
The U.S. Park Police continue to investigate the collision.
