Houston rapper Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was shot in Memphis on Saturday but is expected to survive. However, his associate, rapper Sayso P, was killed in the same incident.
According to reports, the shooting occurred around 2:42 p.m. near the FedExForum on Lt. George W. Lee Avenue. Witnesses described hearing 3-5 shots as a suspect vehicle drove up and opened fire before fleeing the scene. Memphis police confirmed that one man was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported to a hospital in non-critical condition.
Sauce Walka, 34, was shot in the thigh and is recovering at a local hospital. His family stated that he was not the intended target of the shooting. Sayso P, an artist associated with Sauce Walka’s independent record label, The Sauce Factory (TSF), was identified as the deceased by rapper YTB Fatt, who had partied with them hours before the incident.
Memphis police have identified the suspect vehicle and are actively working to make an arrest. The shooting is considered an isolated incident rather than random violence.
Sauce Walka, known for popularizing the hip-hop slang term “drip,” has collaborated with notable artists such as A$AP Rocky and Travis Scott. His career spans over a decade, with significant contributions to the Houston hip-hop scene.
The investigation into the motive behind the shooting is ongoing. Despite the violence, authorities assure that downtown Memphis remains a safe area.
