
A 17-year-old Hillcrest High School teen is dead following a crash in Midvale, Utah on Saturday.
The accident occurred around 12:50 p.m. Saturday, March 22 on Fort Union Blvd. near 7200 South.
The unidentified teen was killed after they attempted to swerve to avoid another vehicle. They lost control on the wet roads, crashing into a parked semi-trailer.
The driver of the SUV, who was later identified as a Hillcrest High School student, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their passenger, a 19-year-old, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
In a statement, the Unified Police Department extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The Mayor of Midvale, Dustin Gettel also released a statement grieving the lost soul.
“Our hearts are heavy in Midvale as we grieve the loss of a beloved 17-year-old Hillcrest High School student who tragically lost their life today in a car accident,” the statement said.
The mayor implored the community to come together and support each other in these trying times.
Authorities are yet to confirm the name and gender of the deceased student.
