A high school baseball star and his parents were killed after a devastating multi-vehicle crash in Milam County, Texas. Connor McCaffety, 16, and his parents, Clint, 43, and Meghan, 39, died in the crash Monday evening while on their way to Connor’s baseball game.
The incident occurred in the 6000 block of Texas 36 south of Milano around 4:40 p.m., according to the Milam County Sheriff’s Office. The McCaffety family were leaving a high school golf tournament in Brenham to Connor’s game at Rogers High School when the Family Ford sedan stopped in a construction zone in the westbound lane on Highway 36 near the Milam-Burleson County line. A KIA SUV was also stopped behind the family’s car.
Both cars were slammed in the back by an 18-wheeler semi truck. All three McCafettys were pronounced dead at the scene.
The KIA SUV rolled into a ditch, leaving its driver, a 45-year-old woman, with an unknown number of injuries. She was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was a 26-year-old man – it’s unclear if he sustained any injuries in the crash.
Said Rogers ISD Superintendent Duana Brashear in a statement: “Our hearts go out to everyone that is grieving this loss. Support for students and staff will continue to be available in the days and weeks to come…Please keep this family in your prayers.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
