A former deputy of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) was arrested on March 26, 2025, after being accused of exchanging inappropriate sexual messages with a teenage girl. James Traylor, 57, from Mandeville, faces one charge of computer-aided solicitation of a juvenile. The investigation began after the victim’s parents reported the inappropriate communications to law enforcement.
According to JPSO spokesperson Sgt. Brandon Veal, Traylor allegedly met the victim while working a paid detail at a school where she was enrolled in 2024. The girl has since graduated. While the specific content of the messages has not been disclosed, it is confirmed that they were sexual in nature. Under Louisiana law, computer-aided solicitation involves electronic communication by an adult with someone under 17 for sexual purposes.
Traylor had a long career with the JPSO, serving for 34 years before retiring in 2022. Following his retirement, he continued to work as a reserve deputy, which allowed him to engage in paid security details. The sheriff’s office has not disclosed which school Traylor was associated with during his time as a resource officer.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have indicated that further charges could be forthcoming as they continue to interview individuals and analyze devices related to the case. The JPSO encourages anyone with additional information to contact their Special Victims Section at 504-364-5362.
