A tragic car accident in Pittsburg, California, has claimed the life of Villamalia Polina Tu’ipulotu, a 23-year-old woman who was set to marry her fiancé, Beaux Tagaloa, a former University of California football player, this summer. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when a speeding stolen car, involved in a high-speed police chase, collided with their SUV.
The accident began around 12:41 a.m. when Tu’ipulotu and Tagaloa left a family gathering in Pittsburg. They were struck by a stolen gray Infiniti sedan near the intersection of East Leland Road and Gladstone Drive. Tu’ipulotu died at the scene, while Tagaloa remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) had been pursuing the stolen vehicle, which was traveling over 100 mph on Highway 4. The driver, reportedly armed with a stolen handgun, fled after officers attempted to make a traffic stop as the vehicle exited the freeway.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover funeral expenses for Tu’ipulotu, raising over $47,000 so far. Her family described her as a beautiful person and expressed gratitude for the community’s support during this difficult time.
Cal Athletics released a statement offering condolences to Tagaloa and his family. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office is leading the investigation, assisted by the CHP and Pittsburg Police Department.
