A Boise substitute teacher and assistant baseball coach has been arrested on charges of child sexual abuse of a minor under 16 years of age, according to police and school district officials.
Tyler Chorjel, 25, was taken into custody on April 9 following an investigation initiated by Newport Beach, California police. Authorities allege that Chorjel posed as a 16-year-old online to solicit explicit photos and videos from two juvenile females. The investigation led Boise Police to identify Chorjel as the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail, with the case still under investigation.
Chorjel had been employed by the Boise School District as an assistant baseball coach during the 2023-2024 school year and was hired as a substitute teacher in March 2024. However, he did not work as a substitute until the 2024-2025 school year, during which he worked for 8.5 days at various schools, including Boise and Timberline high schools.
In response to the arrest, the Boise School District terminated Chorjel’s employment and issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to student safety. “The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” the district said. Officials added that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and providing support for students, staff, and families affected by the news.
The Boise Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this case to contact them at 208-377-6790. The investigation remains ongoing.
