A tragic single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning claimed the life of Lauren Souza, a junior at Trinity High School and Bedford resident, authorities confirmed. The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on April 20 on Back River Road, just south of the County Road intersection near Peter Woodbury School.
According to Bedford police, Souza was the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, which was traveling southbound when it left the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, and rolled into the school parking lot. Emergency responders found Souza at the scene, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
Trinity High School released a letter to students expressing profound sadness over the loss of their classmate. The school is coordinating a crisis team to support students and staff this week. Both Trinity High School and St. Joseph’s Junior High School canceled academic classes Monday, April 21, but opened from 9 a.m. to noon for counseling services.
The Bedford Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“We offer our prayers for Lauren and the Souza family as they deal with this unimaginable loss,” the school statement said.
This devastating incident has deeply affected the Bedford community, especially the students and faculty at Trinity High School who knew Lauren Souza as a fellow student and friend.
