
The figure skating and snowboarding community is mourning the death of influential coach and former U.S. national competitor Kevin Spada. Spada, of Winnetka, Illinois, was reported dead Friday, April 18, 2025. No cause of death was given.
A 1992 Novice National Ice Dance champion (with Kate Black), Spada competed five times in the early 90s as a U.S. national figure skating competitor and, after retirement, coached for over thirty years, including the 2011-2012 U.S. National team. Spada operated his own professional figure skating training coaching establishment in Greater Chicago till his death. Spada held a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Indiana University Indianapolis, per LinkedIn.
News of his death swept the figure skating world, eliciting numerous tributes. Spada’s family has yet to publicly address the news.
