A 48-year-old woman was fatally shot inside her apartment at Creekside Manor before the suspect took his own life in a separate county, authorities said Thursday.
Gina DePietro was found dead Wednesday around 1 p.m. in her apartment on Affinity Drive in Jackson Township after a welfare check was requested when she failed to show up for work, according to Chief Deputy Coroner John C. Hanovick and Pennsylvania State Police. DePietro had sustained three gunshot wounds, police said.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Daniel Platt of Zelienople, was determined to have shot DePietro before traveling to Beaver County, where he died by suicide, state police said in a news release.
The investigation revealed the incident spanned two counties, with the initial homicide occurring in Butler County and the subsequent suicide in Beaver County. Authorities have not released further details about the relationship between the two or a motive.
The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the case. No other persons are believed to be involved.
The tragic event has left the local community shaken. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
