Two people are dead and another is hospitalized following an apparent murder-suicide in Lauderdale County, authorities said Tuesday.
Lauderdale County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Ingram Street, according to the sheriff’s office. Upon arrival, deputies found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. A witness told investigators they saw a man fire a gunshot at another man inside a home before the woman fled the residence seeking help. The suspect reportedly followed the woman and shot her outside the home, officials said.
Deputies discovered two men dead at the scene, including the suspected shooter. The injured woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition was not immediately released by authorities.
The identities of those involved have not been made public as officials work to notify next of kin. Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting, but said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. Additional details are expected as the inquiry continues.
