An 18-year-old Milford resident died early Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Quaker Street, according to police.
The victim, identified as Maverick Westcott, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic southbound at approximately 4:15 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, authorities said. The car veered off the road, flipped over a guardrail, struck a tree, and landed down an embankment, crushing the roof and trapping Westcott inside. Emergency crews extricated him from the wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbridge Police Chief Tim Laabie stated that preliminary investigations suggest excessive speed was a factor in the crash. No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported.
The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office is assisting Northbridge police with the ongoing investigation.
A fundraiser was organized to aid the Westcott family. At the time of publication, the GoFundMe had raised approximately $1,258 of its $5,000 goal.
