A 40-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter were found shot to death inside their residence on the 300 block of West State Street on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Trenton police responded to a 911 call around 10:30 a.m. reporting two deceased individuals at the home, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers discovered the teenage girl in a third-floor bedroom with a gunshot wound and her mother on a staircase leading to the same floor, also suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Shade Trenton, a local publication, identified the deceased as Malika Whiting and her daughter, Jairah Kisha Biggs. The same publication alleged that a gentleman named Byheem, an ex-boyfriend of Malika’s, was responsible for the shootings. Authorities are yet to confirm the alleged domestic nature of the incident, although a person of interest has been detained on unrelated charges. No arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide at this time.
Neighbors reported seeing police activity throughout the day as investigators searched the property, including a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee parked nearby. The front door of the home remained open, revealing festive decorations inside that suggested the family had recently celebrated an occasion.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation alongside Trenton police. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Scott Peterson at (609) 649-9218 or Sgt. Roberto Reyes at (609) 256-0997.
