Former Southern University wide receiver and NFL hopeful Quaydarius Davis was arrested Saturday after a video allegedly showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Ja’Yunna Monae, surfaced online.
The footage, reportedly captured by a neighbor’s security camera, depicts Davis choking Monae until she loses consciousness. The incident occurred early Saturday morning following their recent breakup.
Davis has been charged with first-degree burglary, domestic abuse, and battery by strangulation. He was booked into the Tulsa County Jail in Oklahoma.

Monae confirmed the authenticity of the video in a social media post, stating she had ended the relationship due to “many red flags.” She revealed that she called the police and intends to press charges.
“Domestic violence is never OK,” Monae wrote. “This man choked me until I passed out and peed on myself. He kicked my door down, punched me numerous times all because I didn’t want to be with him anymore.”
Davis, who transferred to Florida A&M after stints at Jackson State and Texas Southern, has faced allegations of violence before. In 2021, he was accused of assaulting another woman while committed to the University of Kansas, leading the school to sever ties with him. However, no formal charges were filed in that case. He was reportedly kicked off the Southern Jaguars football team in October 2024 for breaking team rules, according to WAFB, although the specific rule he broke was not specified. Davis subsequently transferred to Florida A&M University.

The video has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for Davis to face legal consequences and questioning the role of athletic programs in addressing domestic violence among players. Jayunna Monae released a second statement, revealing she’s in good shape but promising to press charges for the incident. “”I’m ok , my downstairs neighbors gots cameras , my upstairs neighbors got cameras pointed directly towards my door,” she wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account. “Everything is captured… I called the police ,my neighbors called the police ..I will be pressing charges , and NO I AM NOT GOING BACK . I’m the one who initiated the break up cause so many red flags were occurring .”

Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident, and further developments are expected in the coming days. Davis’s arrest casts a shadow over his NFL aspirations as teams increasingly prioritize character evaluations during recruitment.
