The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its search for Joshua Dimino, 32, who fell overboard from a 26-foot vessel near Lake Worth Inlet earlier this week. The decision was announced late Thursday after an extensive 22-hour search covering nearly 3,000 square miles failed to locate him.
Dimino went overboard Wednesday evening approximately 17 miles southeast of the inlet. Crews from multiple agencies, including air and surface teams, joined the effort to find him. Weather conditions during the incident were challenging, with seas reaching 9 to 12 feet and winds gusting at 23 mph, according to the Coast Guard’s report.
The Coast Guard expressed its condolences to Dimino’s family and friends in a statement and confirmed that the search would remain suspended unless new information emerges. “The decision to suspend a search is never easy,” officials said, emphasizing their commitment to exhausting all possible resources during the operation.
This marks another tragic reminder of the risks associated with boating in rough seas. Authorities continue to urge boaters to prioritize safety measures, including wearing life jackets and monitoring weather conditions before heading out on the water.
Dimino, of Delray Beach, was origianlly from Salem, Massachusetts and worked as a bartender for several establishements in the area including the Hale Street Tavern Oyster Bar and the Derby Salem.
“Today, we mourn the loss of our dear friend and family member, Josh Dimino. Josh was more than just a coworker—he was the heartbeat of Hale Street Tavern,” the Hale Street Tavern Oyster Bar said in a statement. The establishment plans to hold a gathering on Sunday, April 13 at 4 PM to honour ‘Josh’.
Dimino’s funeral service is planned for April 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Sinai at 1 Community Road in Marblehead, MA, his family announced.
