Three Amish siblings were tragically killed Wednesday morning when their pony cart collided with a car on Fir Road, just south of Bremen. The victims, identified as Glenda Jo Yoder, 13, Darrell Yoder, 10, and Devon Yoder, 9, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Fir and 4th Roads. According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA driven by a 17-year-old was heading southbound when it struck the back of the single-horse-drawn cart. The impact ejected all three children from the cart. The driver of the car was unharmed.
Emergency responders, including police, fire crews, and EMS personnel, arrived quickly at the scene. A medical helicopter was called, and accident reconstruction specialists were deployed to investigate. The Marshall County Coroner confirmed that the children’s bodies will not undergo autopsy.
Katie, a neighbor who frequently saw the children riding their pony cart to school, expressed sadness over the tragedy. “I hadn’t seen them come down the road this morning and had a feeling something was wrong,” she said. Katie noted that accidents involving Amish buggies are common in the area and called for increased awareness of their presence on roads.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident with assistance from multiple local agencies. The Bremen community is mourning the loss of three young lives in what officials describe as a devastating accident.
