
A Statesville woman has been confirmed dead following a motorcycle crash in North Carolina. Adela Portillo, 21, was riding a motorcycle when she was involved in a crash with a Porsche SUV.
The accident occurred Tuesday night around 10 p.m. at the intersection of E. Broad Street and Eastside Drive, according to the Statesville Police Department.
Henry Baker, 64, of Statesville, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Eastside Drive while driving westbound on E. Broad Street when his Porsche Cayenne struck a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Portillo, who was entering the intersection.
Portillo sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where she later died.
Portillo’s family organized a GoFundMe to aid in funeral and memorial costs. At the time of publication, the fundraiser had raised just over $14,000 of its stated $20,000 goal.
Originally from Brentwood, New York, Portillo was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved riding. Her social media pages are splashed with photos of her on her bike.
According to her family, Portillo was engaged to be married. She is survived by four siblings and her fiancé. A memorial has been scheduled for March 29th.
Meanwhile, Statesville police investigators issued a warrant for Baker’s arrest after open containers were found inside his vehicle. On Wednesday, Baker was arrested at his residence and charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, Failure to Yield the Right of Way, and Possession of an Open Container After Consuming Alcohol. He was issued a $10,000 secured bond.
