
A husband and wife found dead in their Pueblo home on March 16 from an apparent murder-suicide have been identified.
The Pueblo County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Sherri and Gerald Holmes, responding to a Colorado Open Records Act request. Sherri Holmes died from gunshot wounds, while Gerald Holmes died from a single gunshot wound.
Pueblo Police spokesperson Bianca Hicks said evidence, including gunshot wound placement and witness statements, led investigators to conclude Gerald Holmes shot and killed Sherri Holmes before taking his own life.
Police were called to the 2200 block of Inspiration Lane on March 16 shortly before 8:30 a.m. after reports of shots fired. The Pueblo SWAT team entered the home and discovered the bodies.
Gerald Holmes, originally from New Orleans, was a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1999 to 2021, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. The couple had three children.
